Question

Ram invested ₹42,000/- in the shares of a company. He sold one-third of the total shares at a profit of 10%. He sold the remaining shares at 10% loss. How much did Ram lose?

A.

₹5,200

B.

₹4,200

C.

₹1,400

D.

₹4,000

Correct option is C

Given:

Ram invested = Rs. 42000

He sold one- third of the total shares = 10% profit

Remaining shares = 10% loss

Solution:

He sold one- third of the total shares = 13×42000\frac{1}{3}\times42000 = 14000

140000×10%=1400140000 \times 10\% = 1400

He sold remaining part = 42000 - 14000 = 28000

28000×1028000 \times 10% -= 2800%

                                       = 2800

Overall loss = 2800 - 1400 = Rs.1400
