Question

Number A is eight times as large as number B. By what percentage is number B less than number A?

A.

87.5%

B.

20%

C.

80%

D.

12.5%

Correct option is A

Given:
A = 8 × B

Concept Used:
Percentage decrease = [(Difference)(Original Value)]×100[\frac{(Difference) }{ (Original\ Value)}] × 100

Solution:

Let the value of B = x
Then, A = 8x

Difference = A - B = 8x - x = 7x

Percentage by which B is less than A = (7x8x)×100 (\frac{7x }{ 8x}) × 100

Percentage = (78)×100=87.50% (\frac{7 }{ 8}) × 100 = 87.50 \%
