Question

Lima’s father is four times as old as Lima. Four years ago, his father was six times as old as he was then. Find the present age of his father.

A.

35 years

B.

30 years

C.

45 years

D.

40 years

Correct option is D

Solution:

Consider Lima = L and Lima's father = F.

Lima's father is four times as old as Lima

=> F = 4L   ............. (1)

Four years ago, his father was six times as old as he was

=> F - 4 = 6(L - 4)

=> F - 4 = 6L - 24

=> 6L - F = 20   .............. (2)

Substitute equation (1) in equation (2) so that we get,

=> 6L - 4L = 20

=> 2L = 20

=> L = 10.

∴ Present age of Lima = 10 years.

So, the present age of Lima's father = 4L

∴ Present age of Lima's father = 4 × 10

∴ Present age of Lima's father = 40 years.

Hence, the correct answer is 40 years.
