Question

LCM of two numbers 'p' and 'q' is 935 and (p>q) . What is the maximum sum of the digits of 'q' out of the possible pairs 'p', 'q'?

A.

16

B.

8

C.

5

D.

20

Correct option is A

Solution:
We know, 935 = 5 × 11 × 17
If (p > q)
Let p be 935, then q = 1
=> Sum of q = 1
Again,
Suppose, p = 935, then q = 5
=> Sum of digit q = 5
Again,
Suppose, p = 935, then q = 11 = 11
=> Sum of digit q = 1 + 1 = 2
Again,
Let p = 935 and q = 17
=> Sum of digit of q = 1 + 7 = 8
Again,
Let p = 935 and q = 55
=> Sum of digit q = 5 + 5 = 10
Again,
Let p = 935 and q = 85
=> Sum of digit q = 8 + 5 = 13
Again,
Let p = 935 and q = 187
=> Sum of digit of q = 1 + 8 + 7 = 16
Thus, the maximum sum of digits of q is 16, when p = 935 & q = 187.
