The world’s first Nano-Urea Plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat on 28 May 2022. The plant is located at Kalol, and it was developed by the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO). This innovative product aims to replace conventional urea and increase agricultural productivity while minimizing environmental damage.
Nano Urea is a breakthrough product in the agriculture sector as it reduces the requirement of traditional urea by improving nitrogen use efficiency in crops. Conventional urea has low nitrogen efficiency, leading to overuse, environmental pollution, and soil degradation. In contrast, nano urea provides nitrogen more efficiently and is environment-friendly.
This plant in Gujarat has a production capacity of 44 million bottles of nano urea per year, with each bottle replacing a 45 kg bag of conventional urea. This innovation is expected to reduce the import dependence on fertilizers, cut down costs for farmers, and improve crop yields.
