    Question

    In a circle, a chord AB is 12 cm long and is at a distance of 4 cm from the center. What is the radius of the circle?

    A.

    52\sqrt{52} cm

    B.

    5 cm

    C.

    8 cm

    D.

    None of these

    Correct option is A

    Given :

    Length of chord AB = 12 cm
    Distance of chord from center = 4 cm

    Formula Used :
    Perpendicular from center to a chord bisects the chord.

    Radius:
    r =(AB2)2+d2 \sqrt{\left(\frac{AB}{2}\right)^2 + d^2}
    Solution :

    r = 62+42\sqrt{6^2 + 4^2}
    =36+16= \sqrt{36 + 16}
    =52= \sqrt{52} cm
