    Question

In a certain code language, the following symbols represent the time in a clock as follows:
% means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 2
+ means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 5
? means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 3
< means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 4
    > means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 12
~ means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 8
Note: If two symbols are given, then by default, the first symbol is considered the hour hand and second one is considered as the minute hand; all times are considered at PM. For example, <~= 4 : 40 PM.
Train D that travels at a uniform speed of 10 m/s leaves Agra for Lucknow at %< and train F travels to Agra from Lucknow and starts the journey at %~. Train F travels one-third faster than train D. At what time would both the trains meet each other if the distance between Agra and Lucknow is 138 km?

    A.

    <~

    B.

    +<

    C.

    <%

    D.

    +?

    Correct option is C

    Given:
% means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 2
+ means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 5
? means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 3
< means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 4
    > means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 12
~ means either the hour hand or the minute hand is at 8
    According to the given information:
    Train D that travels at a uniform speed of 10 m/s  = 10×185=3610\times \frac{18}{5} = 36 km/h leaves Agra for Lucknow at %< = 2:20 PM
    Train D travel 20 min = 2060×36=12\frac{20}{60}\times 36 = 12 km
Train F travels to Agra from Lucknow and starts the journey at %~ = 2:40 PM
Train F travels one-third faster than train D.
    D:F = 1:3
    F speed = 363=12+36=48\frac{36}{3} = 12 + 36 = 48 km/h
    Total distance = 138 km

    Time = 12636+48=12684=1.5\frac{126}{36+48} = \frac{126}{84} = 1.5 hr or 1 hr 30 min

    Total time = 2:40 + 1:30 = 4:10 PM

So, 4:10 PM in code language <%.

Thus, the correct answer is (c).
