Question

If the sum of two unequal integers equals the subtraction of the smaller fromthe larger of the same two integers, then which of the following statements iscorrect ?

A.

The two integers must be Natural numbers.

B.

The sum of the two integers is always zero.

C.

The inverse of one integer equals the other integer.

D.

At least one of the two integers is zero.

Correct option is D

We are given that:

Sum of two unequal integers = subtraction of the smaller from the larger.

Let the two integers be aa and bb, where a > b.

Then:

a + b = a - b

Now subtract aa from both sides:

b=−b=>2b=0=>b=0b = -b\Rightarrow 2b = 0\Rightarrow b = 0b=b=>2b=0=>b=0

So one of the integers is zero.

Answer: (D) At least one of the two integers is zero
