If the length of a rectangular field is increased by 20% and the breadth is reduced by 20%, the area of the rectangle will be 192 m2\text{m}^2m2
Question

If the length of a rectangular field is increased by 20% and the breadth is reduced by 20%, the area of the rectangle will be 192 m2\text{m}^2. What is the area of the original rectangle?

A.

184 m2\text{m}^2

B.

196 m2\text{m}^2

C.

204 m2\text{m}^2

D.

200 m2\text{m}^2

Correct option is D

Given:
New length = 120% of original length = 1.2 × L
New breadth = 80% of original breadth = 0.8 × B
New area = 192 m²

Formula:
New Area = New Length × New Breadth

Solution:

=> 1.2 × L × 0.8 × B = 192
=> 0.96 × (L × B) = 192

L × B = 192 / 0.96 = 200 m²

So, the area of the original rectangle is 200 m²

Correct Answer: (d) 200 m²
