Question

If the length and breadth of a rectangular plot are increased by 50% and 20% respectively, then how many times will its new area be from the original area?

A.

1451\frac 45

B.

1151\frac 15

C.

15\frac 15

D.

45\frac 45

Correct option is A

Given:
Length is increased by 50% → New length = 1.5L
Breadth is increased by 20% → New breadth = 1.2B
Formula used:
Area = Length × Breadth
Solution:
Original Area = L × B
New Area = 1.5L × 1.2B = 1.8LB
New area compared to original area =1.8LBLB \frac{1.8LB}{ LB } = 1.8
1.8=1451.8 = 1\frac 45 (in mixed fraction form)
Correct answer is (a) 1451\frac 45.
