Question

If the HCF and LCM of two numbers are 8 and 160 respectively, then the sum of the numbers is:

A.

72

B.

80

C.

74

D.

70

Correct option is A

Solution:

Let the two numbers are 8a and 8b.

LCM (8a, 8b) = LCM 8(a, b) = 160

Put a = 4 and b = 5,(where a and b both should be a single digit.)

LCM = 8 ×4×5 = 160

sum of the numbers = 8 (4 + 5) = 72
