Question

If one substitutes @ with either “+” or “*” (multiplication), in the expression 1@2@3@4@5@6. what is the maximum value that can be derived assuming that the correct order of mathematical operations are followed.

A.

720

B.

732

C.

612

D.

721

Correct option is D

Given: one substitutes @ with either “+” or “*” (multiplication)

1@2@3@4@35@6.

As we know -

·       Multiplication (×) will generally produce a larger result compared to addition (+) when applied to numbers greater than 1.

·       Addition can be helpful in avoiding large numbers when followed by smaller numbers, but we want to maximize the result.

1@2@3@4@5@6

Since multiplying by 1 gives no benefit, we will add 1 to any adjacent number:

= 1+(2×3×4×5×6)

= 1 + 720

= 721
