Question

If one man adds 6 litres of water to 10 litres of milk and another man adds 4 litres of water to 8 litres of milk. Find the ratio of milk in the two mixtures.

A.

16 : 15

B.

12 : 11

C.

16 : 17

D.

15 : 16

Correct option is D

Given:

One man adds 6 litres of water to 10 litres of milk and another man adds 4 litres of water to 8 litres of milk.

Solution:

Ratio of water to milk in first mixture = 6 : 10 = 3 : 5

Total quantity = 3 + 5 = 8

Ratio of milk in first mixture = 58\frac{5}{8}

Ratio of water to milk in second mixture = 4 : 8 = 1 : 2

Total quantity = 1 + 2 = 3

Ratio of milk in second mixture = 23\frac{2}{3}

Ratio of milk in two mixtures = 5823=5×32×8=15:16\frac{\frac{5}{8}}{\frac{2}{3}}=\frac{5\times 3}{2\times 8}=15:16
