Question

If a solid sphere of radius 10 cm is melted into 8 spherical solid balls of equal radius, then what will be the surface area of each such ball? [Use π=227\frac{22}7]

A.

31917cm2319 \frac17 cm^2

B.

31427cm2314 \frac27 cm^2

C.

33557cm2335 \frac57 cm^2

D.

32437cm2324 \frac37 cm^2

Correct option is B

Given:

Radius of the original solid sphere (R) = 10 cm

Number of smaller spherical balls = 8

Formula Used:

Surface Area of the sphere = 4πr2

Solution:

Let the radius of the smaller sphere r

Total volume of the original sphere is equal to the combined volume of the smaller balls.

Volume equality: R3= 8r3

103 = 8r3

1000 = 8r3

r3 = 125

r = 5

Now,

Surface area of each ball ;

= 4×227×52\times\frac{22}7\times5^2

4×227×254\times\frac{22}7\times25

227×100\frac{22}7\times100

22007\frac{2200}7  =  31427314\frac27cm2
