I. 3x² – 22x + 40 = 0 II. 2y² – 17y + 36 = 0
Question

In the following question, two equations are given. Solve these equations, and answer the question given below.

I. 3x² – 22x + 40 = 0
II. 2y² – 17y + 36 = 0

A.

if x > y

B.

if x ≥ y

C.

if y > x

D.

if y ≥ x

E.

if x = y or no relation can be established

Correct option is D

I. 3x² – 22x + 40 = 0
3x² – 12x – 10x + 40 = 0
3x(x – 4) – 10 (x – 4) = 0
(3x – 10) (x –4) = 0
x =10/3, 4
II. 2y² – 17y + 36 = 0
2y² – 8y – 9y + 36 = 0
2y(y – 4) –9 (y – 4) = 0
(2y–9) (y – 4) = 0
y = 9/2, 4
y ≥ x
