Correct option is A
The IBPS Clerk Mains score is calculated based on the marks obtained in each section, normalized to a standard score out of 100 using the equi-percentile normalization method. The Main examination consists of 190 questions for 200 marks, divided into four sections – General/Financial Awareness (50 marks), General English (40 marks), Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude (60 marks), and Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks).
First, candidates’ raw scores (the actual marks obtained in each section) are calculated by awarding marks for correct answers and deducting 0.25 marks for each wrong answer as per the negative marking scheme.
Once raw scores are determined, IBPS uses the equi-percentile normalization process to ensure fairness, as the exam is conducted in multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels. This process converts the raw scores into standardized scores.
After normalization, section-wise and overall scores are calculated and then converted to a scale of 100. This final normalized score out of 100 is used to prepare the merit list for provisional allotment. Only the Mains score is considered for the final selection; marks from the Preliminary exam are not included.
Candidates can view their normalized score along with the state-wise and category-wise cut-offs on their scorecard, which is released a few days after the result declaration. Thus, the final merit entirely depends on this normalized Mains score.
