Question

By selling a CPU for Rs.6325, a man makes a profit of 15%. At what price should he sell it to make a profit of 25%?

A.

6875

B.

6675

C.

6775

D.

6975

Correct option is A

Ans. (a)
Sol. Let the cost price (C.P.) of the CPU be x.
We know that selling the CPU for Rs. 6325 results in a profit of 15%. Therefore, Selling price (S.P.) = Cost price + Profit 6325 = x + 15% of x 6325 = x + (0.15x) 6325 = 1.15x Solving for x (cost price), x = 6325 / 1.15 = 5500.
Now, to make a profit of 25%, the selling price should be: New selling price = Cost price + 25% of cost price New selling price = 5500 + 25% of 5500 New selling price = 5500 + 1375 = 6875.
So, the price at which he should sell the CPU to make a 25% profit is Rs. 6875.
