Question

A train 125 m long is running at 50 km/hr. In what time will it pass a man, running at 5 km/hr in the same direction in which the train is going?

A.

10 sec.

B.

12 sec.

C.

11 sec.

D.

14 sec.

Correct option is A

Ans. (a)
Sol.
Given:
Length of train = 125 meters
Speed of train = 50 km/hr
Speed of man = 5 km/hr
Both are moving in the same direction
Relative speed = (Speed of train - Speed of man)
= 50 km/hr – 5 km/hr = 45 km/hr
= (45 × 1000) / 3600 = 12.5 m/sec
Time = Distance / Speed
= 125 / 12.5 = 10 seconds
Correction: So, the correct option is:
Sol.
Relative speed = 50 – 5 = 45 km/hr = 12.5 m/s
Time = 125 ÷ 12.5 = 10 seconds
