Question

Banraj's age is three times the age of his son. His daughter's age is 3 years less than his son's age. If 3 years ago, the sum of the ages of these three was 63 years, then find the present age (in years) of Banraj.

A.

36

B.

30

C.

45

D.

42

Correct option is C

Given:

Banraj’s age is 3 times his son

His daughter’s age is 3 years less then son’s age

3 years ago the sum of ages of all three was 63 years

Solution:

Let the age of son be x

Then Banraj’s age will be = 3x

The age of daughter will be = (x-3)

3 years ago the ages were:

Son’s age = x-3

Banraj’s age = 3x -3

Daughter’s age = (x-3)-3= x-6

Sum of ages = (x-3)+(3x-3) + (x-6) = 63

5x-12 = 63

5x= 75

x= 15

Present age of Banraj = 15 ×\times 3 = 45 years
