Question

Ashok has Rs. 1617 with him. He divided it amongst his sons Raj and Varun and asked them to invest it at 10% rate of interest compounded annually. It was seen that Raj and Varun got same amount after 18 and 19 years respectively. How much (in Rs. ) did Ashok give to Raj?

A.

847

B.

870

C.

770

D.

697

Correct option is A

Given:
Total money = 1617
Rate = 10% (compounded annually)
Raj’s time = 18 years
Varun’s time = 19 years
Formula Used:
A=P(1+r100)tA = P \left(1 + \frac{r}{100}\right)^{t}
Solution:
Raj amount = Varun amount
=> R × 1.118 = V × 1.119
=> V = R ÷ 1.1 = R × 10/11
=> R + V = 1617
=> R + R × 10/11 = 1617
=> R × 21/11 = 1617
=> R = 1617 × 11/21
=> R = 77 × 11
=>R = 847
∴ Ashok gave ₹847 to Raj.
