Question

An amount of ₹2,500 is divided into two parts in such a way that, if one part is put out at 5% p.a. simple interest and the other at 6% p.a., then the yearly annual interest will be ₹140. How much is lent at 5% p.a.?

A.

₹500

B.

₹1000

C.

₹2000

D.

₹1500

Correct option is B

Given:

Principle amount =₹2500

Interest rate = 5% and 6%

Difference in interest amount = ₹140

Formula Used:

SI=P×R×T100SI = \frac{P \times R \times T}{100}

Solution:

Let the sum lent at 5% interest rate be x

Then sum lent at 6% will be 2500 -x

Difference = ₹140

Then

SI at 5% interest + SI at 6% interest = 140

x×5×1100+(2500x)×6×1100=140\frac{x \times 5 \times 1}{100} + \frac{(2500-x) \times 6 \times 1 }{100} = 140

5x100+150006x100=140\frac{5x}{100} + \frac{15000-6x }{100} = 140

5x+(150006x)100=140\frac{5x +(15000-6x)}{100}= 140

(5x+150006x)=14000(5x +15000-6x)= 14000

x=1000-x = -1000

x=1000x=₹1000

The sum lent at 5% interest is ₹1000
