Question

An amount is divided between two friends in the ratio of 4 : 7. If the second part is Rs. 6 more than the first, then the difference in amount between two friends is:

A.

Rs. 2

B.

Rs. 6

C.

Rs. 4

D.

Rs. 3

Correct option is B

Given:
The amount is divided in the ratio 4:7, and the second part is Rs. 6 more than the first.
Formula Used:
If an amount is divided in the ratio a:b, then the two parts are:
First part = aa+b\frac{a}{a + b} × Total Amount
Second part = ba+b\frac{b}{a + b} × Total Amount
Solution:
 Let the first part be 4x and the second part be 7x.
Given that the second part is Rs. 6 more than the first:
7x - 4x = 6
3x = 6
x = 2
Difference between the two amounts = 7x - 4x = 3x = 6
Thus, the difference in amount between the two friends is Rs. 6.
