Correct option is D
The princely state of Hyderabad, ruled by the Nizam, was one of the largest and most prosperous princely states in
British India. After India gained independence in 1947, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, as the Home Minister and Deputy
Prime Minister, sought to integrate Hyderabad into the Indian Union. However, the Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali
Khan, refused to join India and instead attempted to maintain independence with support from Pakistan.
The Nizam’s administration also encouraged a militant group called the Razakars, who were committing atrocities
against Hindus and pro-Indian civilians. As diplomatic efforts failed, Patel took military action under "Operation Polo", a
swift five-day military operation in September 1948. The Indian Army entered Hyderabad, overpowered the Nizam's
forces, and successfully integrated Hyderabad into India.
