Question

A vendor claims to sell wheat at a loss of 20%, but he cheats by using weights that are 35% less than the stated weight. What is his actual profit percentage (round off to two decimal places)?

A.

21.33%

B.

24.74%

C.

23.08%

D.

24.72%

Correct option is C

Given:

A vendor claims to sell wheat at 20% loss

he cheats by using weights 35% less than the actual weight.

Find his actual profit percentage.

Formula Used:

Profit % = Actual SP per kgCPCP×100\frac{\text{Actual SP per kg} - \text{CP}}{\text{CP}}\times 100

Solution:

CP of 1 kg = 100

Actual weight he gives = 65% = 0.65 kg

He sells 1 kg at SP = 80 (because he claims 20% loss).

But he actually gives only 0.65 kg.

Therefore actual SP per kg = 800.65\frac{80}{0.65} = 123.0769...

Profit % = 123.0769100100×100\frac{123.0769 - 100}{100}\times 100

= 23.0769%

Rounded to two decimal places → 23.08% actual profit
