    Question

    A vendor bought buttons at 22 for a rupee. How many must he sell for a rupee to gain 10%?

    A.

    20

    B.

    16

    C.

    19

    D.

    18

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Buttons bought at 22 for a Rupee

    Formula Used:

    Gain% = GainCP×100\frac{Gain}{CP}\times 100

    Gain = SP - CP

    Solution:

    Cost price for 22 buttons = Rs 1

    For a gain of 10%, 22 buttons should sell for 1 + 10% of 1

    So, SP of 22 buttons = Rs1110\frac{11}{10}

    For Rs1110\frac{11}{10} buttons sold are 22

    For Rs.1 buttons sold = 22×101122\times\frac{10}{11} = 20

    Thus, To gain 10% , vendor should sell 20 buttons for Rs 1.
