Question

A mother is now three times as old as her daughter. 5 years ago, she was four times as old as her daughter. What is the current age of the daughter?

A.

12 Years

B.

20 Years

C.

16 Years

D.

15 Years

Correct option is D

Given:

Mother’s current age is 3 times her daughter’s age.

5 years ago, the mother’s age was 4 times her daughter’s age.

Solution:
Let the daughter’s age be x
Mother's age = 3x.
5 years ago: 3x - 5 = 4(x - 5)

Now,

3x - 5 = 4(x - 5)

3x - 5 = 4x - 20

x = 15

Thus, the present age of daughter is 15 years.
