    Question

A man got a discount of 10% on sugar at Big Mart which allowed him to buy 25 kg more for 225/-. What is the discounted price and the original price of the sugar per kg?

    A.

    50p, Rs.2

    B.

    70p, Rs.2

    C.

    80p, Rs.3

    D.

    90p, Rs.1

    Correct option is D

    Given:
A 10% discount on sugar allowed the man to buy 25 kg more for ₹225.
    Concept Used:
    For the same expenditure,
The ratio of the original price to the new price is inversely proportional to the original consumption to the new consumption.
    Solution:
    Price Comparison:

    Original Price Ratio = 10 : 9

    Consumption Ratio = 9 : 10

    So,

    1 unit = 25 kg

    9 units = 9 × 25 = 225 kg

So, Cost per kg at Original Price:

    Total Cost = ₹225 for 225 kg

    Therefore, 1 kg = ₹1 (Original Price)

    Discounted Price per kg:

    Discount = 90% of ₹1

    Discounted Price = ₹0.90 or 90 paise
