Question

A is 20 percent more than B. B is 30 percent more than C. C is 50 percent less than D. D is 25 percent less than E. By how much percentage is A less than E ?

A.

37.5 percent`

B.

41.5 percent

C.

33.5 percent

D.

35.5 percent

Correct option is B

Given:

A is 20% more than B

B is 30% more than C

C is 50% less than D

D is 25% less than E

Solution:

Assume Step 1:Assume a value for E.

Let E=100 E=100.

Step 2: Calculate D.

Dis 25% less than E:

D=E−25% of E=100−0.25×100=75.

Step 3: Calculate C.

C is 50% less than D:

C=D−50% of D=75−0.50×75=37.5.

Step 4: Calculate B.

B is 30% more than C:

B=C+30% of C=37.5+0.30×37.5=48.75.

Step 5: Calculate A.

A is 20% more than B:

A=B+20% of B=48.75+0.20×48.75=58.5.

Step 6: Calculate the percentage by which A is less than E.

We know:

E=100,A=58.5.

The difference between E and A is:

E−A=100−58.5=41.5.

The percentage by which A is less than E = 41.5100×100%=41.5%\frac{41.5}{100}\times 100 \% = 41.5 \%

A is 41.5% less than E.
