Question

A dog saw a cat at a distance of 280 m. The cat at once ran with the speed of 10 km/h and the dog also ran to catch it with the speed of 24 km/h. How much time will the dog take to catch the cat ?

A.

1.3 min

B.

1.2 min

C.

1.4 min

D.

1.5 min

Correct option is B

Given:

Distance between the dog and the cat = 280 meters

Speed of the cat = 10 km/h

Speed of the dog = 24 km/h

Formula Used:

Relative speed of the dog with respect to the cat = Speed of the dog - Speed of the cat

Solution:

Relative speed = 24-10 = 14 km/hr

14 km/hr = 14×518\times \frac{5}{18} = 7018\frac{70}{18} m/sec

Time taken to catch the cat = Distance / Relative speed.

Time = 280×1870=72sec\frac{280\times 18}{70} = 72 sec = 1.2 min
