Question

A bag contains 5 white and 3 black balls. Two balls are drawn at random one after the other, without replacement. The probability that both balls are black is:

A.

964\frac{9}{64} \\

B.

332\frac{3}{32} \\

C.

328\frac{3}{28} \\

D.

956\frac{9}{56} \\

Correct option is C

Given:
Total balls = 5 white + 3 black = 8 balls
Without replacement
We need probability of both black
Formula used:
P(both black) =P(1st black)×P(2nd black | 1st black) = P(\text{1st black}) \times P(\text{2nd black | 1st black}) \\
Solution:
P(1st black) =38 \frac{3}{8} \\
P(2nd black | 1st black}) = 27 \frac{2}{7} \\
=>P(both black)=38×27=656=328\Rightarrow P(\text{both black}) = \frac{3}{8} \times \frac{2}{7} = \frac{6}{56} = \frac{3}{28} \\
Correct answer is (c)
