PART I : SOCIAL WORK
MODULE 1: SOCIAL WORK – AN OVERVIEW
- Social Work: Definition, meaning, objectives, principles, skills and techniques – Social Work related Concepts: Social Service, Social Welfare, Social Security, Social Reform, Social Policy, Social Defence, Social Development, Social Justice, and Social Health.
- History of the evolution of social work profession nationally and internationally – NASW and
Code of Ethics. - Primary and Secondary Methods of social work – Fields (settings) of social work: clinical, school, correction, community development, child rights – Approaches to social work practice: Charity, Welfare, Development, Participatory, Sustainability, Right-based, Strength-based, etc.
MODULE 2: SOCIAL GROUP WORK
- Concept of Group Work – definition, history, principles, skills and goals of social group work.
- Groups: types of social groups, stages of group development and group processes – Group dynamics – Group Work process – competition, conflict, cooperation, cohesion, coercion and accommodation – Approaches and models in group work practice – therapeutic/social treatment, development group and task-oriented group – types of recordings in social group work
MODULE 3: SOCIAL CASE WORK

MODULE 5: DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
- Basic Concepts in Psychology: sensation, perception, cognition, memory, intelligence. Growth and
development – influence of heredity and environment - Development: concept – developmental tasks – theories of development – Psychoanalytic, Psychosocial, Cognitive and Morality – defence mechanisms
- Developmental Psychology: the bio-psycho-social changes and hazards across the life-span: Prenatal; Childhood-early and puberty & adolescence; and young adulthood
MODULE 6: COUNSELLING
- Counselling basics: definition, objectives, principles – types of counselling – qualities of a good counsellor – counselling: process, skills and techniques – relationship (transference) – therapeutic approaches to counselling: Psychoanalytical, Behavioural, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Existential and Humanistic – allied fields of counselling – Life Skills Education; Family Life Education; Sex Education; ICTC (pre- and post-); Trauma/Crisis Counselling; counselling on gender identity, substance addiction; issues of body image and self-esteem, etc.
MODULE 7: BIOLOGICAL BASIS OF BEHAVIOUR
- Brain – structure of neuron; structure of brain: hemisphere-hemispheric specialization, lobes, fore brain, mid brain, hind brain
- Nervous system: CNS & PNS- neurotransmitters-, hormones and behaviour, limbic system – hippocampus, amygdale-Evolution, Genes and Behaviour.
- Basic psychological/psychiatric disorders: Depression, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Anxiety Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders and probable interventions

Institutions: meaning, characteristics, functions of social institutions: marriage, family, education,
polity and religion – Social Stratification– caste, class and estate -origin, characteristics, and theories. - Socialization: meaning, process, agents, theories of socialization – Social Control: meaning, characteristics, relevance, and agencies of social control – Social Change: meaning, characteristics,
factors and theories of social change. Social Problems: Poverty, unemployment, migration, alcoholism and substance abuse, domestic violence, dowry, crime and delinquency.
MODULE 9: ADMINISTRATION OF HUMAN SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS
- Social Work Administration- concepts, methods, objectives, principles and functions – Characteristics of HSO – Management: meaning, functions of Management, levels of Management – Managerial Roles – Administrative Process Planning-Organising-StaffingDirecting-Co-ordinating-Reporting and Budgeting (POSDCORB) – registration of HSO. -Society, Trust, Companies’ Act.
