Question

y varies directly proportional to (x + 3) and y = 8 when x = 1. What is the value of y when x = 2?

A.

10

B.

12

C.

16

D.

6

Correct option is A

Given :

y is directly proportional to (x + 3)

Solution :

Let k is a constant , such that :

y = k (x + 3)    ..........   Eq ( 1 )

putiing the value of y = 8 and x = 1 in Eq ( 1 ).

=> 8 = k (1 + 3)

=> 8 = 4k

=> k = 2

Now when x = 2.  Then from Eq ( 1 )

=> y = 2 (2 + 3)

=> y = 10

Hence the correct answer is "10".
