Harsh V Shringla was appointed as India's chief G20 coordinator in April 2022, after retiring as Foreign Secretary of India. He has previously served as India's Ambassador to the United States, High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and Ambassador to Thailand.
About G20: founded in 1999, is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU). It works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
The G20 is composed of most of the world's largest economies finance ministries, including both industrialised and developing nations; it accounts for around 80% of gross world product (GWP), 75% of international trade, two-thirds of the global population, and 60% of the world's land area.
Note - India assumed the presidency of the G20 on December 1, 2022, and will host the G20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi in October 2023.
