Question

Which two signs should be interchanged to make the given equation correct?
26 + 2 × 8 – 4 ÷ 1 = 14

A.

- and ×

B.

= and -

C.

= and ×

D.

+ and -

Correct option is D

Given: 26 + 2 × 8 – 4 ÷ 1 = 14
From the given option interchanging the sign.
(a) - and × after interchanging the sign we get following equation and using BODMAS-
26 + 2 - 8 × 4 ÷ 1 = 14
26 + 2 - 8 × 4 = 14
26 + 2 - 32 = 14
28 - 32 = 14
- 4 ≠ 14
(b) = and - after interchanging the sign we get following equation and using BODMAS-
26 + 2 × 8 = 4 ÷ 1 - 14
26 + 2 × 8 = 4 - 14
26 + 16 = 4 - 14
42 = 4 - 14
42 ≠ -10
(c) = and × after interchanging the sign we get following equation and using BODMAS-
26 + 2 = 8 – 4 ÷ 1 × 14
26 + 2 = 8 – 4 × 14
26 + 2 = 8 – 56
28 = 8 – 56
28 ≠ – 48
(d) + and - after interchanging the sign we get following equation and using BODMAS-
26 - 2 × 8 + 4 ÷ 1 = 14
26 - 2 × 8 + 4 = 14
26 - 16 + 4 = 14
30 - 16 = 14
14 = 14
Thus, the correct (d) + and -.
