Which two signs and numbers need to be interchanged to make the following equation correct?(7)2 – (56 ÷ 8) + (9 × 6) = 18
Question

Which two signs and numbers need to be interchanged to make the following equation correct?

(7)2 – (56 ÷ 8) + (9 × 6) = 18

A.

8 and 6, ÷ and +

B.

7 and 6, + and −

C.

7 and 9, − and +

D.

7 and 8, − and +

Correct option is D

Concept: interchange numbers and mathematical operators and solve as per BODMAS rule.
Explanation:
Check option A, 8 and 6, ÷ and +
Given:
(7)2 – (56 ÷ 8) + (9 × 6) = 18
After interchanging,
(7)2 – (56 + 6) ÷ (9 × 8) = 18
or, 49 – 62÷72 \not= 18
as we know 62 is perfectly not divisible by 72, so it will result in decimal.
So, its not correct option.
Check option B, 7 and 6, + and −
Given:
(7)2 – (56 ÷ 8) + (9 × 6) = 18
After interchanging,
(6)2 + (56 ÷ 8) - (9 × 7) = 18
or, 36 + 7 - 63 = 18
or, -20\not=18
So, its not correct option.
Check option C, 7 and 9, − and +
Given:
(7)2 – (56 ÷ 8) + (9 × 6) = 18
After interchanging,
(9)2 + (56 ÷ 8) - (7 × 6) = 18
or, 81 + 56 - 42 = 18
or, 95\not=18
So, its not correct option.
Check option D, 7 and 8, − and +
Given:
(7)2 – (56 ÷ 8) + (9 × 6) = 18
After interchanging,
(8)2 + (56 ÷ 7) - (9 × 6) = 18
Or, 64+8-54=18
Or, 18=18
Thus,  correct option is (d).
