Types of Paints:-
(1) Aluminium Paint:- It consists of very finely grounded aluminium as base held in suspension by
varnish
•It is highly heat reflective and resistant to acid fumes. The surface of iron are better protected from
corrosion.
•It provides a very attractive appearance to the surface and is visible even in darkness.
•The aluminium paints is widely used for painting gas tanks, hot water pipes, storage tanks, silos, machinery etc
(2) Asbestos or Fire Proof Paint:- It consists of fibrous asbestos as the main ingredients.
•It is generally used for painting surfaces which are exposed to acidic gases, steam, stopping leakage in metal roofs, gutter, pouts, flashings etc.
(3) Cement Paints:- This paint is type of water paint, which consist of white cement, colour pigments, with small amount of water proofer and accelerator
•It is available in powder form, with different trade names such as snow-cem, super-cem, snow-crete etc. It (powdered form) is thinned with water to obtain
thick smooth paste and then diluting it to the required consistency
•Cement points ore durable, strong and display better water proofing qualities.
•It is used for painting of externed surfaces, since it is water proof For painting surfaces like corrugated iron sheets etc, this paint is thinned with linseed oil For new surfaces, it is applied in three coats whereas for old surfaces, it is applied in two coats.
(4) Plastic Paints:- This paint contains vinyl acetate and acrylate as base with water as thinner.
•A typical composition of one litre (1.4 kg weighing) plastic emulsion paint is 0.20 kg of binder, 0.50 kg of pigments, 0.10 kg of other solids and 0.60 kg of water. The properties of this paint is quick drying, high covering power, and decorative appearance One litre of plastic paints cover about 15 m² of wall surface per coat and generally two coat is applied either with the help of a brush or a spray gun.
•The time for surface drying for class A and B is 45 minute and for C and D is gominates and for hard dry it is 4 hours and 8 hours for class A, B and Class C, D respectively.
(5) Enamel Paints:- The basic constituents of enamel paints are metallic oxide (white lead or zinc white), oil, petroleum spirit and resinous matter.
•It dries slowly and after drying it form hard, impervious, glossy, elastic smooth and durable film.
•In order to improve the appearance, it is desirable to apply a coat of titanium white in pale linseed oil before the coat of enamel paint.
•It protects the structure from effect of acids, alkalies, fumes of gas, hot and cold water steam etc
•It is generally used on doors, windows, metal grills, porches, decks, stairs, concrte stairs, etc.
