Question

What time (in seconds) is required for a 238 m long train to cross a 702 m long tunnel, if the train travels at a speed of 36 km/h?

A.

94

B.

90

C.

100

D.

104

Correct option is A

Given:

Length of train = 238 m

Length of tunnel = 702 m

Speed of train = 36 km/h

Formula Used:

Time = Total DistanceSpeed\frac{\text{Total Distance}}{\text{Speed}}

Speed (in m/s) = Speed (in km/h)×518 \frac{\text{Speed (in km/h)} \times 5}{18}

Solution:

Total distance = 238 + 702 = 940 m

Speed in m/s = 36×10003600 \frac{36 \times 1000}{3600} = 10 m/s

Time  = 94010=94 seconds \frac{940}{10} = 94 \text{ seconds}
