Andhra Pradesh is the first State created on Linguistic Lines (1st November 1956):  The movement for a separate state for Telugu-speaking people began in the early 20th century. It gained momentum with the demand for separating the Telugu-speaking regions from the Madras State. The death of Potti Sriramulu during a hunger strike for the creation of a Telugu state led to the formation of Andhra State in 1953.In 1956, with the implementation of the States Reorganisation Act, Andhra State was merged with the Telugu-speaking regions of the Hyderabad State to form Andhra Pradesh.

Maharashtra and Gujarat created on 1st May 1960: Maharashtra and Gujarat were both carved out of the Bombay State. After independence, there was a strong movement for the creation of states based on linguistic lines.
The people of Maharashtra, predominantly Marathi-speaking, demanded a separate state from the multilingual Bombay State. Similarly, the Gujarati-speaking population wanted a separate state for themselves.
On 1st May 1960, the Bombay State was divided into two separate states, Maharashtra for the Marathi speakers and Gujarat for the Gujarati speakers.

Nagaland became a Full-fledged State on 1st December 1963: Nagaland was the first state in the northeast to be carved out as a separate entity from Assam. The region had experienced insurgencies and unrest, with the local Naga people demanding greater autonomy and even independence. To address these concerns, Nagaland was granted statehood on 1st December 1963, becoming the 16th state of India. This helped pacify the region to some extent by recognizing the distinct identity of the Naga people.

Haryana carved out of Punjab on 1st November 1966: The state of Haryana was created as a result of the demands for a separate state for Hindi-speaking people. After India's independence, the state of Punjab included both Punjabi-speaking and Hindi-speaking populations. The demand for a separate state for Hindi speakers grew, particularly after the linguistic reorganization of other states. The Shah Commission was appointed to examine this issue, and based on its recommendations, Haryana was carved out of Punjab on 1st November 1966. Punjab became a state for Punjabi-speaking people, while Haryana became a state for Hindi speakers.
