Question

The product of two positive numbers is 9245. If the first number is five times of the second number, then the sum of the two numbers is:

A.

269

B.

266

C.

258

D.

257

Correct option is C

Given:

Product of two positive numbers = 9245

First number = 5 times the second number

Find the sum of the two numbers.

Solution:

Let the second number be x

Then the first number is 5x

5x2=92455x^2 = 9245

x2=92455=1849x^2 = \frac{9245}{5} = 1849

x = 1849\sqrt{1849} = 43
So,

Second number = 43

First number = 5 × 43 = 215

Sum of the two numbers:

215 + 43 = 258
