Question

The list price of an article at a showroom is Rs.2000, and it is being sold at successive discounts of 20% and 10%. Find its net selling price.

A.

Rs.1700

B.

Rs.1440

C.

Rs.1400

D.

Rs.1520

Correct option is B

List price of an article at a showroom = Rs. 2000
Successive discount on selling price = 20% & 10%
Formula Used:
Successive Discount formula = D1 + D2 - (D1 x D2)/100
Selling price formula = {MP x (100-D)}/100
Calculation:
Substituting the values in formula
Successive discount = 20 + 10 (20 x 10)/100 = 28%
⇒28%
Selling price of the article = 2000 × (100-28)/100 = Rs. 1440
