    Question

The given table shows the percentage of marks obtained by five students in five different subjects in a school.

What is Hitansh's overall percentage (rounded up to 2 decimal places) in the examination?

    A.

    66.55%

    B.

    64.89%

    C.

    65.31%

    D.

    75.11%

    Correct option is A

    Given:
    Subject(Max. marks)Marks (%)English(100)67%Science(150)70%Mathematics(100)64%Hindi(100)55%Computer(100)75%\begin{array}{|c|c|}\hline\textbf{Subject(Max. marks)} & \textbf{Marks (\%)} \\\hline\textbf{English(100)} & 67 \% \\\hline \textbf{Science(150)} & 70\% \\\hline\textbf{Mathematics(100)} & 64 \% \\\hline\textbf{Hindi(100)} & 55 \% \\\hline\textbf{Computer(100)} & 75\% \\ \hline\end{array}
    Solution:
    Maximum marks = 100 + 150 + 100 + 100+ 100
    So, the overall numbers of Hitansh’s is = 67% of 100 + 70% of 150 + 64% of 100 + 55% of 100 + 75% of 100
    = 67 + 105 + 64 + 55 +75
    = 366
     Then the overall percentage marks of Hitesh  = 366550×100%=66.55%\frac{366}{550} \times 100 \% = 66.55 \%

    Confusion Point:
The confusion arises because the table provides percentages of marks obtained, not actual marks. To find the overall percentage, convert each subject's percentage into actual marks by multiplying it with the maximum marks and dividing by 100. Then calculate the total marks and overall percentage.
In the table, the given values represent the percentage marks obtained by each student.
For all subjects except Science, the maximum marks are 100. Therefore, the marks obtained are equivalent to the percentage marks.
For instance, Hitansh scored 67% in English, so:
    Marks in English = 100 × (67/100) = 67
For Science, where the maximum marks are 150, Hitansh scored 70%. So:
    Marks in Science = 150 × (70/100) = 105
