Question

The given circuit behaves as a:

A.

positive clipper with its negative peak at –50 V

B.

positive clipper with its positive peak at 50 V

C.

positive clipper with its positive peak at 10 V

D.

positive clipper with its negative peak at –10 V

Correct option is A

The given circuit behaves as a positive clipper with its negative peak at - 50V.
In positive half cycle,

Therefore, the diode will remain off till the input voltage is 10V and as soon as the peak voltage exceeds 10 volts, the diode will become short circuited and the output voltage will be 10 volts.
In negative half cycle,

The diode will always be in reverse bias for 50 volts, hence the diode will also open and the output will be 50 volts.
