In which year was the number of absentees the second highest in total of all centres?

    A.

    2018

    B.

    2017

    C.

    2020

    D.

    2019

    Correct option is D

    Given:

The total candidates appeared and number of candidates present in different exam centres – P, Q and R

    Solution:

Number of absentees in year 2016

    Absentees in centre P = 45 -42 =3

    Absentees in centre Q = 56-45 =11

    Absentees in centre R = 55-50 = 5

    Total absentees in all centres in year 2016 = 3+11+5 = 19

Number of absentees in year 2017

    Absentees in centre P = 50-45 =5

    Absentees in centre Q = 75-55=20

    Absentees in centre R = 45-40=5

Total absentees in all centres in year 2017 = 5+20+5= 30

Number of absentees in year 2018

    Absentees in centre P =64-60 =4

    Absentees in centre Q =65-45 =20

    Absentees in centre R = 65-55=10

Total absentees in all centres in year 2018=4+20+10=34

Number of absentees in year 2019

    Absentees in centre P = 80-69=11

    Absentees in centre Q = 84-72=12

    Absentees in centre R = 70-62 =8

Total absentees in all centres in year 2019 = 11+12+8 =31

Number of absentees in year 2020

    Absentees in centre P = 55-44 = 11

    Absentees in centre Q = 80-66 =14

    Absentees in centre R = 90-85 =5

Total absentees in all centres in year 2020 =11+14+5=30

Clearly the number of absentees is 31 i.e. second in year 2019
