Question

The difference of two numbers is 20% of the larger number. If the smaller number is 40, then find the larger number.

A.

45

B.

60

C.

40

D.

50

Correct option is D

Given:

The difference of two numbers is 20% of the larger number, if the smaller number is 40

Calculation

Let the large number be x

Then x40=20x100x - 40 = \frac{20x}{100}

 x - x5\frac{x}{5} = 40

 x = 50

Hence, x = 50
