    Question

    The density of an ideal gas can be doubled by halving the:

    A.

    Absolute temperature

    B.

    Velocity

    C.

    Pressure

    D.

    Mass

    Correct option is A

    For an Ideal gas
    Density = mass /volume
    Now from ideal gas equation, PV = nRT eqn. (i)
    given that n = m/M
    where m = mass of gas, M = Molar mass of gas putting value in eqn. (i)
    PV = (m/M) RT
    Now substitute the value of V in the density expression to get
    d = PM/RT
    Density of ideal gas is inversely proportional to absolute temperature.
    Hence, The density of an ideal gas can be doubled by halving the absolute temperature.
