The cost price of 20 articles is equal to the selling price of 16 articles. Find the profitpercentage.
Question

The cost price of 20 articles is equal to the selling price of 16 articles. Find the profitpercentage.

A.

25%

B.

15%

C.

20%

D.

22%

Correct option is A

Given:

Cost price of 20 articles = Selling price of 16 articles

Formula Used:

Profit % = (SPCPCP)×100\left( \frac{\text{SP} - \text{CP}}{\text{CP}} \right) \times 100

Solution:

Let the cost price of 1 article be ₹1

Then:

Total cost price of 20 articles = ₹20

So, cost price of 1 article = 2020\frac{20}{20} = ₹1

Selling price of 16 articles = ₹20

So, selling price of 1 article = 2016\frac{20}{16} = ₹1.25

Profit % = (1.2511)×100=0.25×100=25%\left( \frac{1.25 - 1}{1} \right) \times 100 = 0.25 \times 100 = 25\%

Alternate Solution:

20 CP = 16 SP

CPSP=1620=45\frac{CP}{SP} = \frac{16}{20} =\frac{4}{5}

Profit % = 544×100=25%\frac{5-4}{4} \times 100 = 25\%
