Question

The capacity of a cylindrical tank is 38,500 litres. If the heights is 4 metres, then what is the diameter of the base?

A.

7 m

B.

3.5 m

C.

17.5 m

D.

1.75 m

Correct option is B

Given:

Capacity of cylindrical tank (V) = 38,500 litres = 38.5 m3

Height (h) = 4 metres

Formula used:

Volume of cylinder V = πr2h

Where, r = radius

Solution:

38.5 = πr2× 4

=> r238.54×π\frac{38.5}4\timesπ

=> r2 = 3.07

=> r = 3.07\sqrt{3.07}

=> r = 1.75 m

Diameter = 2 × r

=> Diameter = 2 × 1.75

=> Diameter = 3.5 m

Thus, the correct answer is (B).
