Question

The area (in square units) of the triangle formed by the vertices (1, 3), (3, 5) and (5, 2) is:

A.

4

B.

6

C.

5

D.

7

Correct option is C

Concept:
In  coordinate geometry, the  area of triangle is given by-
A = (1/2) [x1 (y2 – y3) + x2 (y3  – y1) + x3  (y1  – y2)]
where, (x1, y1), (x2, y2) and (x3, y3) are the coordinates of the vertices of a triangle.
Solution:
The given vertices are A(1, 3), B(3, 5), and C(5, 2).
⇒ A = (1/2) [1(5 - 2) + 3(2 - 3) + 5(3 - 5)]
⇒ A = (1/2) [3 + 3(-1) + 5(-2)]
⇒ A = (1/2) [-10]
⇒ A = - 5
Area not the negative
⇒ A = 5
Hence, the area of the triangle is 5 sq units.
