Question

Sabiha purchased 240 cups for her shop at ₹8 each. During transportation, 24 cups got damaged, and she sold the remaining cups at ₹12 each. Find her overall percentage profit.

A.

40%

B.

35%

C.

30%

D.

45%

Correct option is B

Given:

Number of cups purchased: 240

Cost price per cup: ₹8

Number of cups damaged: 24

Selling price per cup: ₹12

Formula Used:

Profit = Total Selling Price - Total Cost Price

Profit Percentage =  Profit Total Cost Price×\frac {\text{Profit }}{\text{Total Cost Price}} \times100

Solution:

Total Cost Price = 240 cups×\times ₹8/cup = ₹1920

Number of cups sold = 240 cups - 24 cups = 216 cups

Total Selling Price = 216 cups ×\times ₹12/cup = ₹2592

Profit = ₹2592 - ₹1920 = ₹672

Profit Percentage = Profit Total Cost Price×\frac {\text{Profit }}{\text{Total Cost Price}} \times100

Profit Percentage = 6721920\frac {672}{1920}×\times100 = 35%

Therefore, Sabiha's overall percentage profit is 35%

Thus, option (b) is right answer.
