If someone secured all the highest scores that have been obtained by some student or the other in the six subjects as given in the table above, what would be the exact overall percentage score obtained by that student?

A.

9116%91\frac{1}{6}\%

B.

95.16%

C.

91%

D.

9056%90\frac{5}{6}\%

Correct option is A

Given:

The percentage of marks obtained by seven students in six different subjects in an examination

Solution:

In Maths highest marks is scored by Aman = 100%

Maximum marks for Maths =150

Marks scored = 100% of 150 = 150 marks

In Chemistry highest marks is scored by Aman = 80%

Maximum marks for Chemistry =130

Marks scored = 80% of 130 = 104

In Physics highest marks is scored by Ayush =90%

Maximum marks for Physics =120

Marks scored = 90% of 120 = 108

In Geography highest marks is scored by Muskan = 95%

Maximum marks for Geography = 100

Marks scored = 95% of 100 = 95

In History highest marks is scored by Sajal = 90%

Maximum marks for History = 60

Marks scored = 90% of 60 =54

In Computer Science highest marks is scored by Muskan = 90%

Maximum marks for Computer Science = 40

Marks scored = 90% of 40 = 36 marks

Total of highest marks scored = 150+104+108+95+54+36 = 547

Total of maximum marks for all subjects = 150 + 130 + 120 + 100 + 60 + 40 = 600

Percentage of marks = 547600×100=9116% \frac{547}{600}\times 100 = 91\frac{1}{6}\%

Confusion Point:

In the table the given marks obtain are in percentage of maximum marks not the actual marks so we have to fist calculate marks obtained from the percentage of marks given.
